Respect Life

Dear Friends,

I hope you have read my previous blog “Be kind to animals” & may have liked it. Honestly think that do you actually care for the world around you or are just bothered about your business, your family, your money…..?

If not, then realize the fact that you exist in this world. You will also become extinct like other species if not now may be a little later. In my last blog, I have requested you to adopt a dog/cat which may not be possible for everyone. Everyone has its own limitations but you can adopt an animal virtually. Yes! by sponsoring food and medical expenses for a cow or a dog/cat anybody.

Yesterday, in my blog I have mentioned to support an Animal Trust “Help & Heal Animal Trust”. You may have questions about its existence. So let me tell you in brief about the founder trustee.

The person who has taken initiative to embark on this noble mission is Simmy Malhotra, an ordinary young woman. An Ordinary woman with an extraordinary trait – her unflagging compassion towards God’s less fortunate creatures – animals. Since her childhood she has been involved with animals around her place, feeding & medicating them out of her own resources. Her parents, also animal lovers, lend her their unconditional support.

After her parents died, she joined a society “Animal welfare society of India” which was governed by Dr. D.C. Jain (Head of Neurology Dept. in Safdarjung Hospital) in 1992. She met people with similar leanings & learnt the finer nuances of animal welfare. She had the responsibility of her younger brother thrust upon her shoulders at a young age and had to struggle to make ends meet. Simmy had no resources, no support from society at large, yet she never forgot her mute friends and would continue to do her animal welfare activities.

She used to regularly volunteer at various animal shelters in Delhi and sadly observed that the conditions in the shelters were unhygienic and a hub of infections. Puppies especially would rarely survive at these places with the mortality rate being as high as 95%. Despite having huge resources and infrastructure, no shelter/hospital showed an inclination towards reducing the mortality rate. Animals coming in & dying has become the norm rather than an exception.

Coming to the Present: Simmy is alone in the world. Fate dealt another cruel blow when her brother died in a road accident. She derived the much required solace from her animal friends. She now lives alone with around 20 stray dogs who she has rescued from the cruel streets of Delhi and given them medication & shelter in her home. They are now her family.

But she is also aware that things remain the same in animal shelters/NGO even now. Animals continue to die due to negligence. Rarely are de-worming and protective vaccines given to puppies so that they get a fair chance to survive. Simmy realizes that what she has done for animals so far is just a drop in the ocean. She cannot remain a silent onlooker to this apathy. Hence, she has shown great motivation & drive in forming a Trust for animals with a singular aim to build a shelter with the latest infrastructure & medical equipments to mitigate the suffering of sick & injured animals and above all minimizing the death rate.

It is her fervent hope that her shelter will be a trailblazer and a bench mark for others to follow. This is the beginning of her dream………..a dream to give God’s mute creatures their one basic right which mankind is intent upon snatching away..The Right to Live – Peacefully and Fearlessly.

Please come forward to support for a cause. If you have any queries please write to us at email: helpnhealanimals@gmail.com.
